    Kick Only and Battery Sizes

Hey Jamesgs4, thanks for all the info on this. Going to make it happen on mine soon. Curious what shocks you are running on your brat? Sorry, if I missed it somewhere.

XS John. Thank-you for all you gave to this and the old site. Sharing with those who have XS running through their veins. Ride on brother, I hear Streets of Gold are always smooth.

    Help with timing and idle

5twins-Thanks, I was wondering about whether lube was a good idea or not. I put a drop of light oil on each post, but wasn't sure if that would make it advance too quickly. TeeCat-No problem, as you say, glad I got to the bottom of it. I was amazed how much being slighly advanced held the...

    Help with timing and idle

Bike seems to be running excellent. What I found was the advance mechanism was not snapping back properly. Removed weights, and found rods had a small amount of corrosion. Buffed it off, as well as the rod hole in the weight. Snaps back properly, and idle drops as expected. The slow returning...

    Pilot jets or Main jets

From the carb guide: If you've created a flat spot just off idle by lowering your needle , you'll need to increase the pilot jet size. Any pilot jet change needs to be followed by a re-adjustment of your mix screw. You've just richened the idle fuel mix so the mix screw usually needs to be...

    Help with timing and idle

Found this in a suntach search: RED =12 volts BLACK=GROUND BROWN or GREEN = DISTRIBUTOR BLUE OR YELLOW=Dimmer I was nervous about trying it, as I didnt want to fry the coil or the Pamco. I thought I saved the tach and cable in case I needed it, but haven't put my hand on it...

    Help with timing and idle

Thanks for the responses. Next day off, I'm going to dig into the advance mechanism. I have a timing light, but it doesn't have a tach on it..:( I have a Suntach that used to be in a Camaro, it has settings for 4,6,8 cylinder engines, but not 2 cyl. I was hoping I could use that, as it has four...

    Help with timing and idle

Hey guys, bike is '79, with BS38, pods, open pipes, 140 mains, 30.0 pilots. Just installed Pamco, with mikes 17-6822 coil. Read through all posts on idle and timing. Bike tends to idle up as it warms (read thats normal) sometimes I rev it, and it stays high, then drops to low idle. (possibly...

How far have you ridden on your xs650?

Same here, about 10 miles tops, before she starts acting up. Hoping my new ignition solves that.

    spark at points and plugs??

Think they were out of coils. Just tried again and it went through. Looking forward to my new ignition. Hope it straightens this baby out. Was curious about mounting, as I currently have coils mounted behind engine. The new coil will be mounted over the engine in the original coil position. My...

    spark at points and plugs??

I tried the 14-0901 again just to double-check, and still says unavailable when you go to purchase it. Got an e-mail back from them. They said they hope to have more kits by friday.

    spark at points and plugs??

The 14-0901 appears to be unavailable at Mikes, though if you ask for each item separate, they all seem available......????

    Carbs spewing gas

Hi and welcome to the forum. It can definately be done with the carbs on. What I do is take a phillips bit like you would use in a cordless drill, and with a 1/4" wrench and a mirror you can pull the screws. Its a bit tricky at first, but can be done. I would recommend pulling the needle and...

Would this coil work in an XS650?

I've got at least two guys local who deal in HD's, but aren't dealers, maybe they will have a decent price on the 17130 (HD OEM # 31609-65A). Think I read somewhere it will work with the Pamco, when I get ready.

Would this coil work in an XS650?

Must be, I looked all over, and couldn't find anything close to that price. Also, noticed it is "out of stock". Going to order from Mikes, once I stop whining about the shipping costs. Rather put my $$ into parts, rather than shipping.

    spark at points and plugs??

Cool thanks for the info. Hard to imagine it costs $11 to ship a coil from Florida to Maine.

    Engine Breather Question

I have a check valve installed on mine also. BE VERY CAREFUL (this is super simple...but) not to crimp or fold over the tube attached to the vent, or the check valve, and run the engine. It will build pressure, and you will find your weakest seal/gasket......
