Fred, Thanks a lot, man! I figured it was just something simple like that, but wanted to ask for some wisdom before I start cutting things or returning parts, haha.

So I just bought a set of the Emgo Shorty mufflers for my 81' xs650, and was planning on using the 1 1/2 to 1 3/8" adapter that Pamcopete suggested above. My problem is that the larger end of the adapter is the same size as the small end of the muffler so it doesn't fit inside of it. How do I...

I was thinking about chopping my stock pipes too, does it cause any problems in how the bike runs/idles? I know I'll have to rejet it,but other than that is just cutting my pipes going to be ok? Also, would I have to go up or down in the jetting?

gggGary - Thanks for the advice. I just ordered some new oil filters and gaskets. So I guess I'll have till they get in to decide what I'm going to do. I really appreciate the help, and I'm loving this site so far!

inxs - possibly a stupid question, but what is the copper looking cover over the right side of the lower sump filter? I just got an xs, went to do an oil change and found a ton of plastic and metal in my filters, but mine doesn't have a cover like that... just a damn hole!:wtf:
