Not that I know of. Must be nice to be rich and have money to burn. I'll bet you even pay someone to come over and put air in your tires, lol.

I have been following your blog, big investment for sure. I am curious about your tuning & final engine specs. Looks like it should get along quite well.

P.S. - I think the xs11 fighter needs to make a comeback also, would need little work to resurrect...

I doubt I have half that into my entire 15 (mostly XS650) bike and parts collection.

It's not the destination it's the journey. You run into this kind of thing in the experimental aircraft world. But they usually add a decimal place or two to the figures involved.

Wow, this must be a new record for the most money ever spent on these old bikes. I don't get it..................why would someone want to spend that much.

holy shit man.....guys are building panheads for less than that.

A fool and his money are soon parted....

But hell, if you're loaded, it's just chump change, right?

  8. As I read his blog comments it seems that how much he is able to spend is the paramount consideration. From my perspective it's somewhat like the gold Rolex, nice I guess but it has nothing to do with knowing the time.

When I say the title to the post I thought you meant 16k miles and I'm thinking "thats not so many". Silly me.

Wow, the consensus seems to be that I'm an idiot!
    I'm surprised by that.

Thanks for the comment on the XS11 Hotdog, might have to do that when this is done. It needs some work as you noted.

Not sure it is a great investment, judging from the response here, I won't be selling it anytime soon for a profit. Despite this, I'm still excited about an absolutely clean, solid well running XS. We're going to try and tune it to somewhere between 60 and 70HP. With the low weight, it should surprise a few sportbikes on a tight backroad.

  13. Hope the bike meets your expectations. You seem to be really enjoying the build. Mots of us 650 riders don't spend that much. It is really not how much spend. It the joy of the ride and the love of the bike. Enjoy.

Thanks Scabber, I am enjoying it.
It is also a way to spend some time with the 10 year old boy, doing something other than video games. Hard to put a value on that.

Absolutely. I know a guy who buys $17K shotguns. Just because I have a couple old Remington 870's doesn't make me any smarter than he is. In fact, he is obviously smarter than I am because he has made enough money to buy $17K shotguns.

Yep, I'd rather the $ go into an old xs. It doesn't make him smarter or you the more stupid, everyone has their priorities and their own budget to work within.

P.s. - I know someone whos sunk 10k into a competition xs motor (motor only).
And imworks I love you bike and build, yes it's a lot of cash - but you can't take it with you, if you're having fun with your boy, that's what counts.

    Thanks hotdog.

New GSXR 750 is 14k, wouldn't trade my XS straight across for that ever.
Not to mention the Gixxer couldn't be any less charismatic if it tried.
Can't think of any stock bike I'd buy. That's why I'm building the XS.
When it's finished and I park it at the curb, I'll bet I get far more people interested than all the CBR's, GSXr's and billet barge Harley's put together. There's some value in seeing the old guy enjoying his memories, looking at your bike.

The only thing besides this XS that I thought about was building/buying a supermotard, but then your stuck with a 450 or maybe a bored 450. I've ridden them, they are lots of fun but only around town. The engines are just too small. Hypermotard Ducati is close, but the bike is too big and heavy to be real fun. Also expensive when dropped.

The XS has good torque, light weight (now), low to the ground. They love to wheelie, skinny tires should be able to slide. Can take it to the flat track and slide it around the track with my buddies. Name me one new bike, even for 16k that could be that versatile and be that much fun?

I've ridden Hayabusas, CBR1000R's etc. Bikes are a blast at 80mph and up...way up. But you die when you F***up at those speeds, not to mention around here they take away your toys for 10 days if your 25 mph over the limit. Its just a ticket and fine for wheelying and sliding around corners, I can pay that and keep my bike.

It's about fun. It's not about max HP or 200mph straights. I'm almost 50 now. I want to go out and listen to the engine, blast up and down the backroads and come back with a mile wide grin on my face.

Find me a 300 lb 750 with torque, low to the ground with good brakes and suspension, one your not afraid to break loose or drop on the ground and I'll buy it.

Yeah don't let the negative guys get you down. If your doin what makes you happy then thats what matters.

Hey, if you've got it to spend, spend it! Keeps the entire community and the economy rolling. Nothing wrong with investing $1000 in your gauge if you're able to.
