Does anyone out there know why there would be the letters RM at the bottom of the steering neck on a 1972 XS650?

idk, but when I stripped my frame, the number 34 was stamped on the up side of the backbone right behind the neck. I didn't lose sleep over it though. Lots of us have seen the number, but not all the same.
perhaps the end of the tubing from manu.? idk.
