1982 XS650 High pitch engine noise

[1982XS650]

When at all rpm's it has this high pitch noise. Most noticeable at lower rps. Was told to see if the starter is dragging but wanted to see what xs650.com says.

Not enough info. What is the bike? From whence does the noise emanate? Can you track down the source with a pseudo stethoscope? Does the noise exist when moving or when stationary or both?
