I noticed axial movement if I rock the 1st gear on wheel shaft (tallest gear) in two different sets of gears I own. Also, if I rotate the transmission, both shafts completely seated in case - gears meshing, and abruptly change direction, I can hear the gears clinging together. Such that I believe the gear is hitting against the adjacent gear.

Do you know where I can source a replacement bronze gear bushing?

Uh-oh.

You'll need a service manual (or two, or three), plus a copy of the parts manual.

Study them closely to understand how a constant mesh trans works, including the shift forks and the engaging dogs.

You'll also notice that the gears don't use bronze bushings.

Except for the 1st wheel gear, on the countershaft.

The dimpled bushing in this gear is not available separately.
This would be a project for a machine shop...
