Just putting this out there for anyone doing a 256 engine rebuild. When buying a new cam chain the link comes with it but it is garbage. GET A NEW masterlink besides the cam chain link combo. THEY ARE NIGHT AND DAY. The one that came with the chain is extremely difficult to get together let alone peen it. I don't have a pic of the old one. JUST THE NEW. The new one has a punch mark on it already and it looks to be a softer material to peen. The one that came with the chain was hardened all the way to the end of the pins and no punch marks on it.
I snapped the new link together like nothing. I can't believe the difference. Little things like this make life easier. Hope this helps someone on their build. By the way both master links came from XS650direct.com. I don't know why there is a difference.
