I was able to make an emergency fix on a clutch cable that had pulled out of the upper button, using one of these. The cable goes through the hole and the screw tightens down on it. In this particular one the screw forces the cable into a U-shape before it clamps down on it, holding it pretty tight. I was able to get one at a moped shop that was near where I was. A bicycle shop might have one too. They come in various sizes. It was good enough to consider it a permanent solution, but I got a new cable as soon as I could.

You might find them at a hardware store. Not a bad thing to carry in the tool kit.
Most of the aftermarket catalogs sell them for the Harley crowd.

Ah, quick link. This is a good idea! I might try to get at least one for my tool roll. Quarter inch, I think?

Edit: Hmmm... under that name, I keep coming up with something that looks more like a rappelling hook. Any other names for it?

TC search cable stop or wire stops. They used to be standard on the old solid wire throttle cables for lawn mowers, rototillers etc.
