Adding water to battery

Not to be pessimistic, but my battery looks to be half empty.

Any drawbacks to filling it back up with distilled water? Is getting a new battery a significantly better alternative?

yes, you add distilled water to replenish the electrolyte. Normal lead-acid batteries require the maintenance of adding water, maintenance free batteries are not refillable.
