My TX650A advance mechanism isn't responding like it should: my three shop manuals all say remove the nut, and notched disk, loosen the ring nut with a punch and hammer, and '...slide the advance unit out.' (Progressively as the ring nut is looshed to prevent binding.) Trouble is, even with liberal WD40 and time for it to work, the unit isn't sliding anywhere. Chances are it's never been removed before: anyone had similar strife, and any tips? It should come off as a unit, damned if I want to fiddle with the weights and springs -Any advice, please?

If the notched disc is loose, the unit just needs a little prying. Getting a screwdriver under it is a little awkward -- see if you can find or make a little bent tool to get under the plate. Getting everything good and hot with a heat gun will help.

Thanks for that - I'll bend a lip on a bit of flat strap, and fire up the hot air gun. Thanks for your time and help.
