In at least the XS1B, XS2, and TX650, there are two types of friction disks in the clutch: aluminum (2) and fiber (4). The two aluminum disks are in the center of pack, with two fiber disks on either side. Why are there two different types? I have six NOS fiber disks. I'm guessing I really do need to find the aluminum disks. Just curious as to what the reason was for the different types.

Thanks,
Adam

The dics are assembled one fiber/one metal and so on. The metal on metal would just slip and fiber on fiber would tear each other up. look at a parts breakdown for the year bike you have on one of the yamaha parts sites such as boats.net to get the assembly order.

I see that they have two different part numbers for the friction discs...strange but true.

Yeah man. Lame. Aluminum core and fibre core. Just noticed they're both superseded by the same part number. I wonder if that ended up as al core or fibre?
