My only concern is temperature resistance of thermoplastics. Certainly PTFE has the best at about 300 - 330 Celsius. The Polyethylenes will melt/soften in the range 120 - 180 Celsius depending on their level of crystallinity (The HD aspect). The use of rubber in the past is a good choice because it is thermosetting so does not have a "melting point" in the range of temperatures engines run at.
