I bought a project '74 XS650 and it came with an '80 xs400 "for parts". Is there any interchangeable parts - wiring specifically, coils, carbs?

In a nutshell, no. Wiring is different, carbs different. coils differnt. So don't count on using any of the parts from the 400. Instead try to sell it as a parts bike, or if it came with a valid title, a project bike and use the money to get parts for the 650.

carbs yes but they are 34mm carbs 74 is a TX650A not a XS uses 38mm carbs, you would need the 34mm intakes, so outside of things like turn signals only the air in the tires and any volts out of the battery but not the battery itself, a few light bulbs also, keep it as a separate project and visit the xs400 forum

dude. basically nothing will change over. the xs400 is a bastard bike if there ever was one. wheels axles forks tanks, basically anything that you cant buy a re-pop of doesnt fit. found that out after i bought a 400 and figured how different can they be? yeah. MUCH DIFFERENT

Do you know if the swing arm is the same width at the front and have the same size spindle, there is a lot of talk about fitting rd and xs400/500 rear wheels to the 650's if this was the same it would save a lot of work.
