Base gasket

Hi, just a quick question on base gaskets,
yes or no to sealant on a Mikes xs base gasket ,its the basic green gasket .see pic

I didn't. No problems. As I recall the instructions that came with the gasket set said the base gasket goes on dry. If you put anything on it, it will slip when you torque the head bolts.

If it's a newer one, they are chemically treated with sealer that is released when the motor heats up - so you add none.

Thanks,what about the cylinder head cover ?,that is metal to metal, no gasket the book says a little cement.

The head cover- or tappet cover is MANDATORY to use a sealant. Yamabond or 3 Bond is recommended. I used Permatex RTV Black. Thin bead- a thick bead will squish in and that piece/pieces will get into the system.
