Battery Type/Placement

I've been working on my '81 Special kinda turning it into a brat/bobber type ride. The rear end is as good as done (minus some sanding and body filler to mold the tubing). My question is for those of us who have lowered the seat rails down like I have, What kind of battery are you using now? It's obvious that the tall stock battery will not fit under the seat rails now. I am looking for a shorter and smaller battery for the bike so I can make a battery tray and hold down, unless someone can tell me where else they have mounted their battery in a case like this. I still need to spare some room to mount the needed electronic components as well.
Is it possible to make it a kicker only?

Yes you can go to kck only and run a battery way smaller. If you want electric start your going to have to run the stcok size battery. Tons of threads here discussing bout topics.
