I believe the '79 motor has the timing plate that shows the full advance timing line (unlike the later TCI motors). The Boyer Brandsen install instructions clearly tell how to do it.

the 81 or 82 bike is still hole I have not started working on it yet, so what I get from this is the stock system is disabled and I don't even have to change the stator rotor on the 79 just swap stuff out under the cam covers.?
