Cam chain tensioner guide

I'm rebuilding an engine now and just got it together. However, I'm wondering now if I put the little aluminum bracket in the block correctly. Is it possibly to get that little guide in wrong? How could I know without taking it apart. I used and endless cam chain so I don't want to cut it. Does the rear chain guide go through that clip? I hope you guys have an idea of what in talking about:doh:
 
Yes I cut the dowel out and ran the chain trough. It's the little metal bracket the fits into the cam chain tunnel that I'm concerned about. Thanks for the reply. I'll have a look at that link when I'm off work. edit: yes, I did what the link says. I wish I could find a picture of the part I'm talking about...

If it's the front guide, it sits at an angle that would prevent you from installing upside-down. But, you need to ensure it's straight and centered over the chain...
