Finally figuring out my idle noise after adjusting valves 4 times

Went to recheck cam tension
Clicking on dry rotation matched the plunger moving beyond the threads
If I hold my finger against the plunger firmly the noise goes away on rotation.
I think I have mixed components in my tensioner
Are there interchange problems with plunger, aduster screw, spring.(lengths)
I have the older style shoe type rear tensioner not the wheel type.
The image in the clymer book shows a threaded aduster having a shoulder and the newer one not
HELP!

You may be missing the copper damper washer on the screw/rod assembly. It pads the plunger when it strikes the screw and eliminates that "click" .....

Yes, there were differences in plungers, adjuster screw lengths, probably springs too. Unfortunately, I've never seen all that info written down somewhere. Probably because very few people have access to one of each of the 5 tensioner styles to do a comparison .....

Thanks a bunch I believe I have an E type and the copper washer in mine does not appear that thick can multiple thin washers be used?

problem solved.
Thanks a bunch turned out the copper washer that was in there was too thin and too small ( I think it was a brake fitting washer) any way it got worn to where it slipped inside the spring.
Put 2 new thicker ones and instant quiet.
Thanks again
