i have an endless cam chain that I split to install in a new xs I am rebuilding. I noticed it comes with a master link. Is there any reason I shouldn’t just reattach the cam chain as it was? Or will it mess up the length for the tensioner or something? Thanks

Best method is to split the originally endless chain at its masterlink (if it has one), then use the supplied masterlink. Avoid reusing old links...

The original factory chains in these were not endless, they had a master link. 99% of us replace them with the same - a split chain and master link. Using an endless chain involves tons of extra work. The whole motor needs to come apart so the chain can be slipped over the end of the crank, and the rear tensioner needs to be split open so the chain can be fed through it's bracket. Like I said, tons of extra work and there's really no good reason for it. The split chain and master link work and hold up just fine.
