Hi guys came back from a ride all good ,turned the ignition switch to put away in the garage "nothing" no lights totally dead so I checked the battery fine and tested the ignition switch fine but no power getting to the switch
I followed the red live from the battery and stripped lots of electrical tape to find the wires were just twisted and badly taped together and they were loose

so I put connecters on red from battery to red on switch /brown from switch to brown on loom
but the two blue wires from the ignition switch weren't connected?
I put a connecter on the blue and white wire and it was extended with a piece of wire but didn't seem to be connected to anywhere just pushed in to the loom cover ?

I now have everything working but not the brake lights?

The back light is on but the bulb seems very bright (I think its the brake light filament that's on ) so after reading several posts ,could the reserve lighting unit be the fault would it stop the brake lights working and put the brake light permanently on?
what should the blue white wire be connected to?

any help most appreciated
thanks

Hi guys just been going through the bike and a twig !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!yes a twig was wedged in the rear brake switch keeping it on so I now have everything working
but still don't know what the two wires from the ignition switch are for and that blue white wire is it connected to anything ?I cant see Yamaha just adding random wire

any suggestions welcomed unless its buy a modern bike LOL
many thanks

Hi jd750ace many thanks for the info

she doesn't have an electric starter its was removed when I bought her ,so it must have just been sitting there unconnected

I spent last night studying the wiring diagram it really is "very complicated" I'm thinking about rewiring the bike as I don't have indicators and all I really want is headlight/ tail light /horn and ignition

I've see a few simplified diagrams but am a little nervous about taking the plunge into rewiring !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! and I cant find one that is for the standard points setup

Another question The diagram shows the two blue ignition switch wires going to the light checker ( I don't seen to have that either) I do seem to have a vast amount of wire unconnected LOL
many thanks

There is a signal cancelling unit in the harness which many people just disconnect (not needed) - that might be those wires. Follow those wires on your diagram and see.
