Can I use my worn cam chain guide/ can I glue it Back to the post ? It hasn't separated much and it not worn to bad but I can't order it anywhere without waiting a month ... What do I do
I say no. I did just buy a brand new genuine Yamaha unit from Babbittsonline.com. It was expensive- $60. MikesXS not only is out- but does not even have a supplier at the moment. Thats why they dont even list them on their site.
NO and NO! please replace it. if you are already into the engine replace it now so you dont have to later. i did this on a honda xr600 and regretted it when a chunk came off and chewed up in to bits and plugged oil passages causing my cam to run dry making some nice flat cam lobes. But then It probably would be fine as is and last forever but not worth the risk. IMHO
The guide is such a week spot, requiring engine removal and disassembly long before otherwise necessary. I suggest casting chain tensioners out of bronze - a bearing material compatible with steel.
