Carb joint/boot angled?

1981 BS34- are they angled- can't get my carb back on and didn't really pay attention to them when I took them off. Now they just don't seem to want to go in and fit quite correctly.

If so how do you tell the difference quick glance doesn't show much angle... and do they get installed angled outward or inward?

There is a right and left boot, they are different. Mount them so the vacuum take-off port angles up and to the outside, then the angle of the boots will be correct.
 
10 and 2 is above the centerline, 8 and 4 is below. just try it. there are only 4 different ways to put the damn things on, c'mon, man!

Note the "L" and "R" on the angled boots. Further the angles are so made to bring the intakes throats and faces parallel to each other and level to the bike.
