Well, here's my latest dilemma. After closing the throttle on my xs1-b, it takes a moment for the bike to return to idle speed. I'm using the stock Solex carburetors with the rubber diaphragm on the top of the slide. If the rubber on the slide is stiff, will it cause this problem? Is there any way to soften the old diaphragms? Thanks!

If they're not too bad, I've found that ultrasonic cleaning seems to restore them some and there are replacements available if needed.
However, the symptom you describe often indicates the carbs are not quite in synch

That's entirely possible (the synch issue) I just had them completely apart and may not have gotten them back together exactly right. I haven't worked on a Solex since the late 70s. I'm a novice again.

If you dont have a sonic cleaner then this video is a good way to do things.
It helped me a lot having never taken a carb apart before!
Excuse the accent (Its no worse than mine) of Chopper Fisher.

 sync, also sticky throttle cable, twist grip...
Have you cleaned, lubed, checked the advance rod, for free action?
timing hanging advanced fora bit will give a fast idle also.
Easiest function test for that is a timing light...

That's a BS34 so just generic carb cleaning info.
