carb questions

so my 72 xs has had timing,valves all adjusted. i have pod filters and open exhaust and while the bike is running it spits gas back out of the intake side of carbs. the carbs were cleaned new gaskets installed and i upped the main jet to 137.5 from 135. didnt touch the pilot or needle. adjusted mixture screw out 2 turns. what am i missing? im dying over here!

If the carbs are from the 72, then the settings are different. Take a look in the tech section at the carb guide. The stock mixture setting for the 72 carbs is 3/4 turn out from seated, and the stock main jet is a 130.

I am running pods and some fat turn-out mufflers that are fairly open and it responds fairly well, and the plugs look good with the stock main jet. I went one up on the pilot.

Good Luck. I'd also check the float height and needle/seat. I had some excessive fuel issues that crept up on me due to a leaking float.
