Certifiably insane asking prices

I too saw that add this morning and thought it was a misprint. Maybe he`s planning his retirement? I`m new to the XS650 seen so for now I`m building what appeals to me. This one seems like it would make a good donor bike. Flat black isn`t worth much to me. Before the XS650 thing I was into vintage karting for 8 years.112 karts in three years. Now I have my 3 nicest ones left and glad to have come out about even? Money lesson to be learned in that sport/hobby for sure. Besides I can ride the motorcycle anytime.
Everyone is trying to become the next Deus or Classified Moto.

I have sent the seller a question asking if he has forgotten to mention the MV Augusta that is also included to justify the asking price..

What makes you think those guys are professionals? From what I can see, they basically just bolt parts together. You could train monkeys to do that. They powder coat everything black and bolt it back together. They're way over priced for what they do. Even their t-shirts are a rip-off. $40 for a t-shirt, lol. They say there's a sucker born every minute, which is good for those guys. They need nitwit customers like that.

it's primarily a marketing operation- glossy carefully staged pics and lofty inspiring corporate-speak with off road rubber aimed at PT Barnum types... or you could make a downpayment on a house.

The eBay listing claims its a Federal Moto bike.
Federal Moto is a custom bike shop: http://www.federalmoto.com/about/

If you buy a professionally-built custom bike from a specialist shop, then how much is it worth on resale?
An interesting question that I can’t answer.
Easy answer.........................buy it for $14,500, and then you could sell it for about $3500. But don't forget you've had the pleasure of driving something that was built by "professionals" with tatoos on their arms. That's got to be worth the $11,000 you just lost.

Yes, insanity must be what's going on, buyer, seller, whole market. Sellers with tattoos on foreheads and necks could be even more insane with even higher insane prices.

A really strange magnetic culture has developed over these bikes and others.

A friend & I are in the middle of two cafe racer builds, so I know how the costs add up pretty quickly.

I’ve never heard of Federal Moto.
Don’t know how much its worth, but I wouldn’t pay $3.5k for their bike.

Oh my, the drama is building.....................only 4 days left in the auction. No bids?? C'mon guys get your bids in as this is obviously a very unique bike and may not be seen again. Did you see that cute little LED taillight, and the licence plate holder alone will spark up a lot of conversations. The headlight with the wire screen is just amazing, and the small speedo is such a clever touch.

when converted into aust dollars au$ 18779.95 which is dearer than any xs650 iv seen in oz and we are famous for our expensive xs650s ..shit if they get that price we may have to start shipping them back to the usa

on a related note, you'd like to think that by listing your bike on Ebay with it's usurious $125 fee that maybe bidders would be leery of screwing you by not paying. not so....

i had my red bike with the RD400 tank listed last week. some dumb fuck placed a bid then wouldn't pay the $500 Paypal deposit, either never read or ignored my explicit payment instructions, and then wanted to pay on the installment plan. between this shit and scam infested Craigslist you really have to wonder what happened to the Golden Rule. that's a rhetorical question.

I think these guys watched that TV program that a shop built a girl a XS650 and they said the build was $19,000
You could always ASK a high price.....................
if it loads I built this for under $7,000

Seller.........Tank in perfect condition............Just a couple of small dents ................
Seller ..........Nothing to be done and ride away................may need a tune up.................
See statements like this all the time, and the one i like best.
Seller................Motor has been rebuilt
And in the list of whats been done to it..............new pistons and rings and head gasket

No different than the guys who dismantle carbs and sell a needle for $10.00

Did you lay a complaint against the bidder

I've been chasing 1200 Goldwings on Craigslist, with my son. Some of these guys are great at taking pictures at just the right angles and making up the stories. I don't listen much to the stories. We've only found worked over bikes so far, some real crap, and we're not looking for 100%, just a bike that may be sitting because of a stator or broken timing belt with bent valves or an electrical gremlin.

Zero bids, less than three days left. I am a professional luthier, work on violins and fiddles, I've seen $1000 instruments listed for over $10,000, not sold and relisted over and over, wonder if that will happen with this bike.

650Skull- ebay is incredibly biased toward buyers. not really a damn thing you can do when some idiot deadbeat torpedoes your auction other than open an "unpaid item" claim, which at least cancels your $125 fee. in their self-interest i doubt they ever ban buyers and the buyer has virtually no skin in the game- other than the negative feedback you can post- and i'm not even sure at this point whether that option has been removed. if not, rest assured i'm going to pen the most scathing comment possible after getting this straightened out.

Tell you funny story about a Goldwing. I use to own a Honda dealership and we sold a ton of bikes but we had a guy come and buy a Goldwing with a note book and asked a thousand questions. So he wrote everything down but one thing where to put the gas. He got two miles down the road and started to put gas in tank. Well Goldwing has fake tank and any idiot could see the gas doesn't go there. Well bike was running gas flowing down sides and POOF the bike went up like a dead tree. We got a call from the cops that we had a problem. My partner got there and boy was it a crispy critter . Brand new 3 miles DONE. I have owned three myself great bikes and if you tear off all the weight very quick.

As far as EBAY you have to call them and they will fix it for you. I have a EBAY store and that happens a lot . People don't know how to use it. Last year I thought I hit gold had a Harley on there started out at $6,000 and third bid went right up to $11,000 from a guy in Texas. It still had 4 days left and he even contacted me about shipping. Then he disappeared . So I had to sit out the time contact ebay get my fees back and relist again . What sucked was those other bidders that had the bike at $ 8,000 went away. Ended up selling it local and ate the $250 in fees. Now I just list in my store as buy now. EBAY don't like it because there is no big fee on the store buy now. I always just tell them I will pull the store and they go away. I think I have two thigs on there now its dead in the summer months so I don't list much.

I was just chatting with my friends about these guys this weekend. Long story short, it's a garage builder out of Edmonton that actually just bolts stuff on. It's all about marketing and Instagram and looking cool. But the crazy thing is that it seems to be working really good for them. Rumor has it they sold one of their bikes for mid 5 figures at some show in the states. Just shows you that a lot of business is how you market your stuff. I'm actually dumb-founded that people pay for this but at the end of the day they're the ones laughing all the way to the bank.
