I am building a xs 650 bobber i bought from a guy he done had the tc/hardtail kit on it and im almost done with it all i like is the chain but i c some bike running those roller/tensioners do i need one? whats the purpose thanks

Typically with a hardtail/chop you run a longer than standard chain. As the front sprocket drives the rear wheel, the chain on the top run tightens. Consequently it slackens slightly on the underside which causes it to flap around. This is especially an issue with a long chain, such as on your hardtail. The roller/tensioner is sprung to absorb and flatten out this underside and means you don't have to wind your chain so tight that you wear it and your sprockets.
