It should have electric start already. All XS650s from 1972 to the end of production came with electric start motors and a kick starter. Look under your bike to the rear of the engine. You should find an electric motor.

This little gear is found under the right-side crankcase cover. The gear itself is not a big deal, but if the shaft that it is on is missing -- Then you have problems. If that shaft is missing, it will require splitting the cases to put it back in, and you should seriously consider abandoning thoughts of replacing your electric start.
