Curious: where did Wassell p-nut style tanks come from?

I have an old ass one on my bike and just wondering where they originated? were they always a custom thing? or did a bike come with one?

Mine has England stamped on the inside of it but not sure what bike they were on originally

So how can you tell if it is an original or what year it was made. Now I'm curious.

If it's really old it probably came off a Penton Motorcycle that was really a Wassell re-badged for the US market. More than that I don't know.

From what I've understood the tanks were orginally made in England. Its hard to identify the year on the tank, they started in the 50's I believe.

Good info here. The only way I know its old and original is the presence of rust and the side mount tabs in front..... The repop stuff has top mounts, which I prefer.

I may just buy a nice repop one day instead.
