Debadging a Tank

Planning to use a Custom/Special tank on my '75 B and debadging it. If you've done this did you find you needed to cut off the ends of the badge mounting tangs? It looks a bit marginal whether you'll get a smooth finish without removing them.

Place a screwdriver on the tang near where it is welded on to the tank, and tap it with a hammer. That should bend the metal enough so that the tang moves back and does not interfere.
