Probably a stupid question but...

Usually kick start anyway but seems like the electric starter won't work unless it's already warmed up... and kills the battery quick! What gives?
 
- is your battery on the way out?
- or maybe your charging system isnt operating effectively-check your brushes too
 
These bikes start perfectly every time on the electric motor. Follow what inxs said. Corrosion on the battery cables or the large cables going down to the starting motor can also cause weak starting. Worn out battery is a prime suspect.
 
Replaced the battery and new cables. Still starts easier with the kick. Once I get it warmed up though it's fine.
I can just kick start it for now I guess... don't want to open another can of worms. ;)
 
is your bike points or TCI? points adjustment may be in order if you're having issues starting with the electric, or coils on their way out.
