Help with getting my new ride wired. I pick up a 79 xs650 that has what I believe to be a batteryless set up. I am getting lost in diagrams i don't understand. I order a ingniter box because the bike did not come with one. any help would be great.

What does it have for a charging system, stock or PMA? Your pics show nothing under the left side cover. You appear to have a Pamco ignition and a XS Performance Ignition Coil from MikesXS.net and a mallory capacitor to eliminate the battery. You would need to have a PMA to run battery less as the stock charging system needs good voltage from the battrery to be able to charge a battery/run the bike.

You're going to remove the 5" round cover that says Yamaha, on the left side of the bike, and take a peak inside. Here's a link from the tech section that explains the PMA http://www.xs650.com/forum/showthread.php?t=63
What type of igniter box do you think you need to order? Since your using the Pamco setup, you don't need a tci. Go to the tech section and look over the different topics.

Ok I do have the pma swap. will the wiring diagram from the 81 for this setup be the same for a 79
