Exhaust System Compatibility

I have a 1980 XS650SG. It has the original stock pipes, that are beginning to corrode from the inside out. The bike came with a complete stock exhaust system from a 1981 (that's what is marked on them). They are in pretty good shape. The actual exhaust outlet on the '81 pipes is in the center of the muffler. The '80 pipes outlets are slightly offset from center. Will the '81 pipes (if that's what they really are) work OK on the bike without any changes to jetting, etc. Thanks

If they're stock pipes and muffs you should be fine.

you'll be fine, the jetting on BS34's stayed the same from 1980 to 1983

But ..... even an all stock bike with these factory lean BS34s will be happier if you bump the mains up one size.

Or at least; shim the needles with the washer mod.........
