fast falling slide

allright, i have a pair of bs38s. we all know if you plug the inlet hold with your thumb and raise the slide and release it, it should come down very slowly. this is the case with mine. unless i have the enrichener open. with the enrichener open it falls pretty quickly. should i look into replacing the plunger, choke gasket and dust seal, or is this the normal operation.

It's normal. When the choke plunger lifts it opens a passage between the choke chamber and the diaphragm vacuum chamber. If the engine isn't running, lifting the choke plunger opens the vacuum chamber to atmosphere, allowing the slide to drop.
