First build 1978 xs650 special duel sport/dirt tracker help

Hi I'm 15 and love bikes my dad gave me a 1978 xs650 special the didn't run and had some problems. I got it running it only has the wiring it needs to run no lights, signals, or horn. It was running ok so I adjusted timing and it ran great for and now it has an insanely high idle. The air/fuel mix screws have been adjusted and it still idles to high. I need to know what is going on. Also how can I make it lighter and how can I buy or make a dirt teacher style seat and rear fender? Would timing have anything to do with it? Any other tips to make my bike better in any way please tell me.

-New knobby pirellies, cleaned carbs, new points and condenser.

As far as a fast idle goes,ofcourse make sure throttle shaft is returning to the stop and slides are droping down.If you still have trouble check valve adjustment.To tight on int. or exh. can make it idle high. Good luck!

Welcome. Check the advance for sticking. Could be the cause. If you haven't Serviced it do it now. A google search top left corner of the page.
