For the Memorial day weekend some history around WWII

In Flanders Fields
In Flanders Fields, the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the dead.
Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie,
In Flanders fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.

Ceremony in Baraboo this morning.
Taps with a second bugle echoing, always gets to me.

Not really history of the Great War but a piece of a tribute done years ago for the fallen.
May they rest in peace...

I believe in democracy and maybe it's best to have really bad people in charge of defending if needed to make sure the light doesn't go out.

When it kicks off you need a ruthless bastard in charge.
Churchill was such a total bastard at times, and he had a track record.
My grandfather hated and despised Churchill all his life, but even he had to grudgingly admit that if it weren't for Churchill, the outcome for Britain may have been different.

If the most ruthless bastard wins, then you have a dilemma when you have to explain how you won :)

Historically it's the side with the most men in the field that wins, with exceptions due to some combination of luck and skill. These days I'd guess number of men is replaced by amount of effective firepower?
