Fork travel

Hey,

Could anyone tell me what the travel is on 82 (I think) special 35mm forks?

The reason is, I have fitted a micron fork brace which raises the dust seal spigot and I've ordered some lovely shiney alloy dust covers and I'm worried that they'll bottom out.

I think the travel is rated at 5.9". At full compression, there isn't much space at all between the dust cover and lower tree, maybe 3/8".
