Hi Scott,
getting better, first 180º then 90º, soon she'll be right, eh?
Nice bike, close to Triumph Amaranth Red paint job, too.

Thanks for the photo flip...I hate ipads for anything but browsing...

I am really happy...very cool bike...want to put less curvy bars on it though...a straighter bar perhaps which will give me more of a lean forward position...

on another note, can anyone tell me the dimesions for tdc and advance ie how many inches to the right for the TDC and how much to the left for advance mark...i have seen it somewhere ?????

Hi Scott,
the bars in your photo look like the Special's stock rototillers and IMHO their only good use is as part of an outdoor windchime.
Bars is like shoes, you gotta try them on before you know that they'll fit you.
Stock bars from an XS650 Standard are lower and straighter and Eurobars are lower and straighter yet.
FWIW my "best fit" bars for riding an XS650 solo are from a 1972 Suzuki GT750.
The different stance the XS650 needs for sidecar work means that XS11 Standard bars are better.
What I'd do is find a motorcycle swapmeet, I've never been to one that didn't have a table full of 'bars for sale, usually ~$20 each for bars with nice chrome.
Try before you buy.
The 1" Harley bars are easy to see but take a caliper to measure the 7/8" bars.
Some of them ain't.
They are 22mm BMW bars (7/8" = 22.22mm) and that small difference means that everything meant to fit on 7/8" bars tends to slip around on them.
And yeah, you could shim the 22mm bars with strips cut from a beercan but why bother?

Bike looks good.

I too am from Ottawa. My build is taking a slightly different approach than yours but if you need any local help with anything I'm available.

Thanks guys...and thanks lower c...my only issue at present is having it bog down at higher revs...for example, if I crank the throttle it's blahhhhhhhhhh until I let up and it slowly builds....not so bad if I build up speed slowly...the carbs are mikes knock off performance slider carbs...I know, no one likes them. They seemed an easy fix until the originals were rebuilt...either way, they should be doing better...

Try stock bars off of a 75 XS - that's what's on this bike -
full

Where can I get a rear mudguard and license tail light from like you have on yours? I live in the UK and all I found so far are rusty ones that cost as much as the bike itself lol

Hi Jack and welcome,
judging by the posts to this list there should be lots of them gathering dust under workbenches in the North American hardtailers' workshops where they were discarded.
Mind you, the shipping costs to the UK would most likely kill the deal.
BTW, if you ask for a mudguard over here you'll get the rubber flap that bolts to the fender.

they are not usually xs650 specific but an aftermarket rear light assembly for custom /classic bikes
heres a typical light assembly

you're just going to have to trawl the net until you find something but I would start looking with all the UK based custom bike suppliers first

have you come across Wemoto and Yambits yet ? and there is Heiden tuning in Germany and don't forget Fowlers Yamaha dealers in the UK who have amazing stock of elusive OEM parts .
