I have a 78 XS and the left carb has a leak. Not even exactly sure what it is called, but where the fuel line attaches to the brass port/inlet that sticks out of the carb where the fuel enters?? That port/inlet pulled out while I was cleaning the carbs. Should it be a press fit? Can I apply a sealant to get a better seal?

Had the exact same thing happen to me (even the left side) on my 1977. It was almost as if the fuel line hadn't been off since the factory. It does look like the brass tube is only a press fit. What I did with mine is give it a light sanding, coat it with JB Weld and press it back in. I also added a bit more JBWeld where the tube meets the carb body. Hasn't leaked since.

good luck, hope it works for you too.

I stuck a rod in mine to re-enforce it and knurled the outside with a spring loaded center punch. Tapped back in with a hammer and hard plastic block. Hasn't leaked since.
