Gas Tank ID

Can anyone ID this gas tank? The front mounts fit the XS650 frame, though the tank is shorter than the Special tanks on my '78 & '80.

Since I'm aiming in a Scrambler/Tracker direction with the '78, this would be a good piece to the puzzle.

My guess is a DT1 from about 1970.

Cool as f***. That's going to look great. Especially if you can find badges.

Thanks for the lead - looks like the Sudco catalog lists tank badges for the DT1 .... and they're the same PN as they have for XS650 badges; the oval ones at least.

That makes me happy.

Is the tunnel wide enough?

It does fit the front mounts (with the rubber bumpers on the tank) when I went to check it on the 1980 XS650 frame. It appears that the tunnel is wide enough, but it's quite a bit narrower than the Special tank, and doesn't really clear the bulky twin wiring harnesses that run along the backbone. I did a little fiddling and am pretty sure it will go on with some very minor mods, including slimming down/re-routing the wiring harness and fabbing a rear pad & back latch of some sort.

I'll play with it a bit more later this week & take pictures.
