I was messing around with my DT175E today replacing the oil lines on the Autolube pump. This required removal of the right side engine cover. Just my luck the po had coated both sides of the gasket with some super sealant. The cover side wasn’t so bad because I could do it on the bench, but the engine case looked real bad because you couldn’t get your hands or many tools in some ares to remove the gasket.

Came up with this and thought it may be useful to someone in the future. I took a strip of 3M / Scotchbrite pad and folded it over on itself a couple of times and clamped it tightly in a small pair of needle nose vise grips. This allowed me to get into the nooks and crannies where I couldn’t get my fat fingers or a scraper. Used it like the eraser on the end of a pencil and did it ever work well. Peeled most of the gasket material off by hand and used this to remove the left over gasket and sealer residue. Didn’t damage the aluminum at all.
