Tony that vinegar idea worked really well in my tank. Tried everything but it worked the best and im back to gray metal again. It only took a three day soak, im going to leave it for a couple more days and seal it on the weekend. thanks again. Mike

Mike you can use phosphoric acid for a few days and it will leave a coating where your tank will not rust. This acid is fairly weak and will not damage the inside of your tank. It is an acid so wear all safety gear when using. (goggles, long shirt to cover your arms, and gloves) I would tape plastic on my painted surfaces. I use it before I paint my tank.
I have it in a 77' tank now and three more to do. Tony C
