Ground

Hi,
This might sound stupid to many of you but considering this is my first engine rebuild I am continously struggling. So here it goes. I have connected the starter to the + battery to crank the engine but nothing. I suppose it is due to the grounding. How can I check the grounding when the engine is on a TC Bros engine stand???

Do you have the (-) terminal of the battery connected to anything? Should be grounded to the engine, just pick a mount and use the bolt to do this.

You could have a bad starter motor.
Connect battery + directly to the terminal on the starter motor. Find a cable or something and attach one end to battery negative, touch other end to the unpainted frame of the starter motor, you should get a big spark and starter motor should turn.
