Grounding

So where is the best places to use for grounding on the xs?

I know there was one on the swingarm originally for the battery but where else might be good? Would the coil mount be a good choice for an on off switch (I hate grounding to the bars)?

Anyplace on the frame that works for you (and you can get a solid connection). I don't recommend grounding to the swing arm.
The battery grounds to the frame just behind the batt.

I assume you are talking about the starter button or horn button, thats the only thing that grounds at the bars.
You mention an on/off switch. This is the engine stop switch, it does not ground at the bars. Power flows up to the on/off switch, from there power flows out to the ignition and starter relay.
