Searching previous threads regarding head gasket thickness sways one to believe an Athena head gasket is approx .060 thick. Thicker than an OEM of about .045
This SCM shown on the left came to me recently with the SCM XS engine gasket package. Supposedly after reading that SCM head gasket is similar in OEM thickness spec. Mine is not however . It’s even marked 1.50 mm. It’s just over .060. Does that look like the SCM other members have received?
And.. the head gasket which is unmarked does measure well at .045 ? The weird thing is this engine top end was loosely assembled using green “Athena” gaskets I believe. I’ve disassembled and replaced those green gaskets with the SCM set. But what the heck is that unmarked head gasket I pulled out? Doesn’t seem to be the described thick Athena gasket written about in several old threads.
Does anybody have a good perspective on what is shown in my pic? I’m stumped momentarily.
