Help! I am trying to do my own electrical on a 1978 xs650

I have a 1978 xs650 bobber im making and need electrical done. Can someone explain to me how step by step what go's where. I have the rec/reg all hooked up 3 white to white, green to green, red to battery, black to ground, brown to ingnition and split to stator...? 650 is a new engine to me. on the start button, what wires go where??red to battery, black to ground, blue? brown?....and does the starter have to have a starter solenoid??im assuming yes?? some one please help other wise its off to the chopper shop so they can charge me insanely to do it.....thanks plus what wires go to coil( ngk's )??
