Help identifying bolt size for threaded hole in swingarm

Does anyone know what size of bolt that is meant to go into this threaded hole located on the left side of the 650 swingarm?

M6x1, for the chainguard? (If larger than regular M6, it must be M8x1.25, i.e regular 8 mm coarse thread)

I don't have a chainguard so that would make sense it would be an attachment point for it. Thank you!

Yes, it's for the chain guard, but normally, I don't think it's threaded. The nut for the M6 bolt that goes through it is usually welded to the chain guard.

Previous owner made some cuts and additions to the frame, so it's possible he may have threaded the hole.

I was planning to use that hole as an attachment point for a swingarm mounted rear fender, and wanted to drill & tap a hole on the right hand side to match.

Try if an M8 fits. M7 is pretty rare, but who knows.
The P.O may also have used an UNC tap...... 1/4 maybe......

Yes, you can test it with a bolt and then tap the right side the same.
That hole originally had no threads.
