Help with starter please

Hi there gents.

Bike was starting beautifully and then suddenly starter just spins.

In the 'oh oh' album I've posted a pic of a gear on the left side of the motor which just spins freely and can be moved back and forth maybe 10mm.

Is this normal?

Or do I just need a mikes starter repair kit?

Please help!
need her on the road by the 23rd!!

Builder just called. Tension spring had come out of its position. Starting great!!
