So I read a blog online that said the best way to clean your carbs is by boiling them in lemon juice. Mine were really bad, varnished, so I just boiled them for about an hour. There is grey chalkey stuff, kind of gritty everywhere. The throttle was kind of stuck closed. Did I just ruin these or is there another step I should take. Could be pricey any help!!!!

I've boiled the brass parts alone in lemon juice and it made them look like new. Mirror shiny.

As for what you have now, I would get a couple cans of carb cleaner and try to blow them out. I would start by blowing backwards from the small orifices like the pilot circuit to the larger openings so that gritty crud you describe doesn't doesn't blow down into the smaller areas.

Never heard of using lemon juice but I have had pretty good results using pinesol.

You might have some gunk or rust in the throttle shaft bushings, A little pentetrating oil might free them up
