Hi everyone, Im new to the forum here. The other day I was at a friends fathers house and he told me he had a bike for sale, I ended up buying this 1977 XS650 with 1,142 miles on it. It appears to be all original with no rust, I have the original seat for it, and an extra set of carbs for the bike. Currently im having some issues getting the bike to fire up, ive replaced the battery and will probably look into getting a new starter solenoid for it. Im pretty excited to dive into working on it and hopefully I can return it to his old glory!

That is a real prize of a bike!

I looked at all of your other stuff too, couldn't help it..... very pleased to see that you don't appear to own a sawzall. (That bike deserves a better fate.....like restoration).

Now that king-queen seat is another story....Ugly thing isn't it? I had one just like that on my 77....I killed mine and saved the hide....gonna turn it into a tool roll!

XStretchified

Go up in tech and read the new to me thread, give you an idea of what to be looking for when bringing an XS back to life. By the way; I am SO jealous!

BWAHAHAHA. Dude with a first find that nice you are going to be sooo addicted.
Dollar to a doughnut you have a beater by new years:D

Hey thanks guys I appreciate all of the input. I used to have an 07 triumph speed triple that I just sold before picking this one up, im really pleased with it. I got it running tonight, brand new battery, new fuse, and a tank full of gas and it fired right up. I'm pleased to say it's idling to at a smooth 1500 rpm. I also performed a check of the bikes other systems and the electrical system appears to be just fine and all of the lights work as well as the horn. I will definitely need tires as the ones on it I believe are original and have nasty flat spots and dry rot, will also have to make some minor adjustments and do some maintenance work on it... So far so good! Really liking this bike.

Oh and I do own a sawzall, just don't have any desire to use it on this bike! Yea I'm really not diggin the current seat, I'll be putting the stock on back on for sure.
