Hugh’s hand built timing

Scratching my head here, I’ve got an xs650 with a Hugh’s cdi ignition the previous owner put on. It seems like the timing is a bit too advanced, how exactly do I retard the timing on this setup. Every thread just explains finding tdc with the damn sticker. Nothing about actually adjusting the timing

You either move the pickup, or you move the rotor relative to the crankshaft. If there is a weoodruff key, it should be possible to get keys with some offset. It may even be possible to delay timing by wiring a capacitor in parallel with the trigger wiring. But that is a case for the electronic gurus her to expand on.
